There’s this woman in my neighborhood that cooks very tasty katogo..There’s cassava and beans, matooke, then offals with egg plants in it and she serves it with dodo, cabbage, kachumbali, ovacado, pilipili …I kuyoya it every now and then.

I saw this lady come to the neighborhood. She came with almost nothing. Rented a small ka house of about 50k a month (you can imagine what the house looks like). With no job she some how started cooking her katogo under a veranda. It wasn’t tasty from the start but kept improving. One by one her clientele started growing. She started selling at 1,500 now she is at 2,500. I haven’t spoken to her in depth about her business (I will do soon and report back to you guys) but based on my analysis it’s doing fairly great.

She hires about 4 ladies whom she pays 4k each every day. She managed to find a better house with cement and power and now uses this other one as a store of some sorts. She has built a small shelter where she works upgrading from the veranda. For a business that spends 16k a day on workers am estimating she makes pretty much more than 50k a day and 1.5M a month. Regardless of whether she actually makes that much or not, she has really transformed her life drastically ever since she started small about a year ago and this transformation is so evident you don’t have to look hard to see it. Even a blind man can see it hahaha.

Own Your circumstances in life

On the same block she used to rent is another lady. She has a kid with a taxi conductor who chose to go to the village when covid started. This lady stays with the kid barely knowing where they’re next meal will come from surviving largely on a female neighbor that also shifted last month after getting a job as a cleaner in one of the hospitals on Entebbe road. The husband left her with rent dues of over 200k (4 months). Why she doesn’t work or even try to get work like washing clothese only her can explain. She keeps calling this man to send money but clearly looks like the man doesn’t have money himself yet she still expects him to take care of her somehow. Sometime back she was worryingly sick neighbors had to contribute to get her some medical attention. The lady that cooks katogo offered her a job she is yet to take up, up to now. I heard she said 4k a day is little money hahaha. Little when you have nothing lol.

Now these two women are a representation of life. In life we have people who own their circumstances in life. Who take responsibility of getting the most out of life. Who instead of blame every one and everything for their situation take the bull by it’s horns and work to turn things around for themselves. Then we also have those people who think someone has to come and turn things around for them. They blame every one and everything for where they are in life save for themselves. They wallow in their pitty party instead of taking off the loud pitty music, end the party and get to work.

Who of those two you chose to be is your option. People want to always tell themselves they never had an option. Even when death is the option you still have an option to live or die like the Uganda martrys did, so stop lying to yourself that you don’t an option and also know your options in life will contribute largely to how you end up in life.
